Marvel’s “Armor Wars” Transitions to a Movie from a Disney+ Series

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Thursday that Marvel’s Armor Wars, which was planned as a Disney Plus series, is now being made as a movie.

Although Armor Wars didn’t yet have a release date for Disney’s streaming service, it was planned to be a part of Phase 5 or 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion debuted its first trailer at Disney’s D23 Expo earlier this month. Armor Wars will take up where Secret Invasion leaves off and will feature various new suits of Armour for Jim Rhodes/War Machine. Rhodes will have to cope with Tony Stark’s (aka Iron Man) technology getting into the wrong hands.

It was formerly advertised as a six part Disney Plus series that would begin filming in 2019. The production will be delayed by the switch from Disney Plus to a theatrical release, but Don Cheadle will still be there to repeat his part, according to the Reporter.

It’s not yet obvious how the series will tackle the material or adapt it with Cheadle’s Rhodes at the heart of the plot given that Robert Downey Jr.’s Stark is dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the two time Oscar nominee appears to have resigned from the role.
