“Captain Marvel” new ‘Flying Powers’ made the Sequel more challenging to film

Captain Marvel actor Brie Larson revealed that Carol Danvers new powers made filming 2023’s The Marvels a more challenging experience.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Larson revealed that because the first film’s conclusion saw the Avenger acquire the ability to fly, she had to do a lot more wirework for Captain Marvel’s sequel. While she said that wirework often produces some beautiful scenes, it can be difficult.

“The thing about wires is that it looks really fun and it looks really beautiful but it is uncomfortable even though it looks cool,” she added “Let me be clear it is amazing and very, very exciting but what’s different with this movie from the first one is that Carol didn’t fly until the end, so I didn’t have as much wirework stuff. So, it was just like, a whole new muscle group that was in pain.”

When The Marvels director Nia DaCosta joked that the film would have Carol flying “to the kitchen and the living room”, Larson said it made sense that a person with such a power would use it everywhere. “Of course it’s like, if you could fly, why wouldn’t you?” she remarked. “Why would I walk? I would fly. I’m just floating slightly above the ground the entire time.”

The movie will reportedly follow the pair and Monica Rambeau as they work to determine why they exchange places with each other every time they utilize their abilities. This was reportedly confirmed in behind closed doors video shown at the D23 expo this year.

On July 28, 2023, The Marvels, a film from Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be released in theatres.
