Avatar: The Way of Water to surpass Titanic’s box office haul

By the end of the next month, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water will surpass his own Titanic as the third highest grossing movie in history, setting another box office record.

“By Valentine’s Day Avatar 2 will be within striking distance of #Titanic, but that pic’s #boxoffice re-release will push it up a bit,” Gitesh Pandya, founder and editor of BoxOfficeGuru.com, tweeted. “Still by end of FEB new #Avatar will reach #3 all time where it will finish.”

A few days after surpassing Avengers: Infinity War and breaking the $2 billion mark, Avatar 2 recently replaced Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the fourth-highest grossing movie in history. The movie has currently earned $2.117 billion globally. $2.187 billion is Titanic’s current third-place earnings.

Avatar: The Way of Water recently tied the first Avatar’s string of seven consecutive weeks atop the box office, adding to its long list of accomplishments.

Between January 27 and January 29, the movie’s box office took in $15.7 million, down 22% from the previous week. Avatar 2 won’t likely break the record set by its predecessors, though, as M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin is anticipated to open at between $20 and $25 million.
