“I just EGOT!” exclaimed Viola Davis on stage at the Grammys, becoming visibly emotional as she thanked her family for being “the best chapter in my book”.
The star won a Grammy in Los Angeles for her audio recording her memoir Finding Me, granting her entry into the elite ranks of EGOT winners with an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony award.
Viola Davis is known to be the third black woman and 18th person in history to enter this title.
“I wrote this book to honor the six-year-old Viola, to honor her, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything.” Davis was the only female nominee in her category this year alongside big names Lin-Manuel Miranda, Questlove, Mel Brooks and Jamie Foxx.
Davis was exhilarated to celebrate this moment at the stage, she has achieved Emmy in 2015 for TV series How To Get Away with Murder, won an Academy award in 2017 for best supporting actress for her role in 2016’s Fences and has 2 awards of Tony for Fences and King Hedley II.
