Taylor Swift’s directorial debut is described as one of the “intimate” projects.
Taylor Swift who is popular for her narrative songwriting will make her directorial debut. She made her debut in the singing industry back in 2004 with her first self-titled album making her the first female country musician to totally co-write or write a platinum-certified album in the United States.
Since Swift has been directing or co-directing her music videos since 2010, it was predictable that she would try her hand at a film. The companies like Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Apple would have invested tons of money on star for her directorial debut. Searchlight announced the directorial debut.
While her beau, actor Joe Alwyn, was filming Taylor befriended Searchlight president David Greenbaum. The pop-star attended the New York Film Festival, the two stayed in touch, and Greenbaum, who was aware of Swift’s desire to work in Hollywood and her respect for independent filmmakers, the president introduced her to the Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
Toro says, “I gave her a few books that I thought would be interesting for her—among them, very importantly, a book that was useful for me in creating Pan’s Labyrinth called The Science of Fairy Tales, which codifies and talks about fairy tale lore.”
The pitch was one of support and curation because Searchlight was confident that the streamers would lavish Swift with cash and allow her to create anything she pleased.
