Adventure Time Creators On Old Faces Returning in Spin-Off

Adam Muto and Ryann Shannon, the showrunners for Max’s upcoming Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, have verified what many fans anticipated regarding the possible appearance of Jake and Finn in the spin-off series.

The upcoming spin-off, centered around Fionna the Human and Cake the Cat (alternate renditions of Adventure Time’s Finn and Jake), has been confirmed as a multiverse narrative.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Muto and Shannon revealed if Fionna and Cake will feature familiar faces.

While Shannon gave an assuring “Absolutely,” Muto went into more detail to discuss the possibility, stating, “Yeah, because it is also a multiverse story. That’s part of what interested us too, being able to show different versions of familiar characters and how they would relate to Fionna, and using that to drive her character growth.”

He added, “We’ll see at least one Finn and some Jake, and other characters you’d kind of associate with Adventure Time, like Princess Bubblegum and Marceline. We tried not to divorce it completely from the original series without making it a cameo fest.”

In another interview with Inverse, Muto shared: “We do still kind of show a snapshot of them (Finn and Jake) where they’re at because it didn’t make sense to not show them at all. And we also want to see what the contrast is between Finn and Jake and Fionna and Cake’s dynamic. So, yeah, expect to see some versions of them.”

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake will comprise ten half-hour episodes, with a scheduled premiere date of August 31 on Max.
