The One Piece Film Red anime’s official website stated on Thursday that as of Tuesday, September 20, the movie had taken in 15 billion yen (about US$103 million), in its 46th day at the Japanese box office.
As of Sunday, the movie had sold over 10.72 million tickets for 14,755,032,100 yen, which is almost US$97.31 million. The movie has surpassed Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You to become both the #7 and #13 highest-grossing anime film in Japanese history.
In its first weekend, the movie topped the box office in Japan. In its first two days, the movie sold 1.58 million tickets. And brought in 2.254 billion yen, or roughly $16.7 million.
As far as the quantity of tickets sold and the amount of money made at the box office. It has surpassed all previous entries in the franchise. Additionally, it outperformed Top Gun: Maverick to become the year’s highest-grossing opening in Japan.
Crunchyroll will debut on November 4 in the US and Canada, and on November 3 in Australia and New Zealand. The North American debut will take place in New York on October 6 after the subtitled premiere on September 16 at Crunchyroll Expo Australia.
The main focus of the movie is Shanks’ daughter Uta, a new character. Uta’s singing voice is Ado, and Kaori Nazuka provides the character’s speaking voice. Ado also sings “Shinjidai,” the movie’s theme song (“New Genesis”). One Piece Film Red was directed by Goro Taniguchi. The screenplay was written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa and Eiichiro Oda, the author of the One Piece comic, acted as executive producer.
