Jonathan Majors Faces Sentencing After Failed Bid to Overturn Assault & Harassment Conviction

Jonathan Majors, known for his roles in Creed III and Marvel productions, will proceed with sentencing next week following a New York judge’s decision to uphold his assault and harassment conviction.

Judge Michael Gaffey dismissed the defense’s attempt to overturn the guilty verdicts delivered by a jury on December 18 last year. Majors is scheduled to be sentenced on April 8, as originally planned.

With the possibility of up to a year of imprisonment looming, neither Majors’ lead attorney Priya Chaudhry nor the Manhattan District Attorney’s office has commented on the recent ruling.

This setback comes amid ongoing legal woes for Majors, including a defamation lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Despite earlier claims of filing counterclaims, no such action has materialized from Majors’ legal team.

Jonathan Majors

Majors was arrested on March 25, 2023, following an alleged assault on Jabbari in New York City. Despite maintaining his innocence, he was convicted late last year on charges of reckless assault and harassment after a protracted trial. The jury acquitted him of more serious charges related to intentional assault and aggravated harassment.

Throughout the trial, Majors consistently denied the allegations, with his attorney asserting his status as a victim of abuse and racism. However, subsequent revelations and detailed accusations have cast doubt on his claims.

Amidst the legal turmoil, Majors has seen a significant downturn in his career, with management and PR firms dropping him and several projects being shelved or terminated, including his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite these setbacks, Majors’ agency WME has continued to represent him.

As the sentencing date approaches, Majors’ future remains uncertain, both personally and professionally, underscoring the enduring consequences of his legal troubles.
