“Don’t Worry Darling” takes the crown

Don’t Worry Darling, a buzzy drama starring Olivia Wilde, performed less well than anticipated in its US box office debut weekend, taking in $19.2M from 4,113 cinemas as per Deadline. The movie’s Saturday take was down a startling 39% from its $9.55M Thursday/Friday haul, but it still won the weekend.

Don’t Worry Darling, a movie starring Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, and Olivia Wilde, made $10.8M overseas from 61 markets, bringing its total worldwide earnings for Week 1 to $30M.

The big news was James Cameron’s rerelease of Avatar, which brought in an incredible $30.5M worldwide, including $10M from domestic sales and $20.5M from overseas. When it debuts in December, Avatar: The Way of the Water will undoubtedly be a big success.

Elsewhere, at No. 2, The Woman King held firm in its sophomore frame, earning $11.1M (-41%) to bring its domestic total to $36.2M.
