Anna Wintour and James Corden Attend ‘Beckham’ Premiere

In London on Tuesday night, the worlds of fashion, TV, and sports converged for the premiere of David Beckham’s documentary series on Netflix, titled Beckham.

The event saw the likes of Anna Wintour, James Corden, and Louis Theroux in attendance, along with notable figures from English soccer. Beckham himself was present, alongside his wife Victoria, their four children, and their respective partners.

The four-part series, directed by Fisher Stevens of Succession fame, delves into Beckham’s personal journey and offers an intimate glimpse into his childhood, rise to fame in the late 1990s with Manchester United and England, and the ups and downs of his relationship with Victoria, the former Spice Girl.

It also sheds light on the emotional rollercoaster Beckham experienced as he became a target for UK tabloids and faced various infamous moments both on and off the field. Notably, this series holds significance as it is the first produced by Beckham’s own company, Studio 99, in partnership with Ventureland.

During the premiere, Beckham took the stage and explained why it took him so long to agree to a documentary series about his life. He admitted that he wasn’t ready to look back and process the multitude of experiences that have shaped him.

However, about three years ago, he realized that this could be the right time to embark on this project. He wanted to give back to his loved ones, friends, family, and fans, and create something that everyone could enjoy. Beckham also shared that the series allowed him to open up about certain aspects of his life that he had never spoken about before, making it a healing process.

Stevens believes that his fresh perspective brings something interesting to the series, as he didn’t come with preconceived notions or a wealth of knowledge about Beckham’s life and career. In addition to Stevens, the series is produced by John Battsek, Nicola Howson, and Billie Shepherd.

The Beckham documentary premiered on Netflix on Wednesday.
