Streaming’s Future: Prime Video Boss Highlights Content Diversity

Prime Video U.K. boss highlights streaming’s range, content availability, and sustainability.

During a panel discussion on streaming at the Deloitte and Enders Media and Telecoms conference in London. Chris Bird, the managing director of Prime Video U.K., expressed optimism about the current state of streaming services. In response to concerns about the saturation of streaming platforms, Bird stated, “There’s never been a better time to be an audience.”

He emphasized the wide range of content available and highlighted the importance of convenience and variety for sustainable services. He said. “Everything is available all the time. I think the future is about range and convenience. Services that can provide that will be sustainable.”

Bird emphasized Amazon’s distribution strategy, mentioning the acquisition of MGM and how it allowed films like “Creed III” to have a theatrical release before streaming on Prime Video. He hinted at the future possibility of the film being available for free with ads.

As a member of the U.K.’s Creative Industries Council, Bird stressed the significance of investing in skills and diversity in the industry. He expressed pride in the current state of film and TV production in the U.K., stating, “We’re in the golden age of film and TV production in the U.K., we’ve never done it better.”

Panelists including Richard Halton of Roku, Marc Watson of DAZN, and Sophie Jones of BPI expressed confidence in the future of streaming. Watson noted upcoming changes in the industry, stating, “We’re some way away from equilibrium.”
