Amazon Explores UK Adaptation of ‘LOL: Last One Laughing’ Show

Amazon is considering the possibility of producing a UK version of the popular comedy show LOL: Last One Laughing. While the decision has not been finalized, the streaming giant has been in discussions with independent production companies over the past few weeks through an informal tender process.

LOL: Last One Laughing is a unique comedy format where comedians are placed in a living room-style studio for several hours. Their challenge is to make their fellow comedians laugh while resisting laughter themselves.

If a comedian laughs, they receive a caution (yellow card), and if they laugh again, they are eliminated from the game (red card). Communication with the outside world is limited to a telephone controlled by the show’s host.

Deadline reports that this format has been a hit in various countries, with different versions produced in Japan, Australia (hosted by Rebel Wilson), Canada, India, Brazil, Nigeria, the Nordics, and more.

However, it has not yet been produced in the UK or the US.

The UK adaptation, if greenlit, is expected to air after the Irish version, set to launch next year. The Irish edition will feature prominent local stars like Aisling Bea and Jason Byrne and marks Amazon’s first original content in Ireland.

Amazon has been expanding its unscripted original content offerings in the UK, with shows like Backstage with Katherine Ryan and Clarkson’s Farm. The latter, despite some controversy, has been a significant success for the platform and is likely to be renewed.

While the UK adaptation of LOL: Last One Laughing is not yet confirmed, it could be a promising addition to Amazon’s growing lineup of original content in the region.
