Netflix has introduced a new feature that allows users to transfer their profile from one account to an existing one, making it easier for households to add a paid “extra member” or migrate streaming preferences.
Previously, users could only transfer profiles to a brand-new account. The company received numerous requests for this feature from its members, and it is now available to Netflix users worldwide.
A Netflix representative stated, “This was a much-requested feature from our members and we’re excited to roll it out to everyone.” The feature builds upon Netflix’s Profile Transfer feature, which was launched last year. It enables users to retain their personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings when transferring their profiles.

The profile-transfer feature was introduced ahead of Netflix’s crackdown on password-sharing, which was implemented in 2023. Earlier this year, Netflix began notifying customers in the United States and other countries that individuals using their accounts outside their households would need to become an “extra member” or subscribe to their own accounts.
The new feature caters to various scenarios where users may want to transfer their profiles. For example, someone who has moved out of their parents’ house might want to transfer their profile to their new roommate’s primary Netflix account. Timi Kosztin, Netflix’s product manager for product innovation, explained in a blog post last year, “People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same.”
Netflix is happy to facilitate profile transfers as long as users adhere to its account-sharing rules. The addition of this feature provides greater flexibility for users to manage their Netflix accounts and preferences within their households.
