Netflix Clears Up Confusion Over Removal of Acclaimed Movie

Netflix has clarified the reasoning behind the removal of the highly acclaimed movie “The Power of the Dog,” alleviating confusion among its users.

While the streaming giant regularly rotates titles in its library, there has been a misconception that content labeled as “Netflix Original” would remain available indefinitely. However, recent instances such as the removal of “Hemlock Grove” and the Netflix-produced season of “Arrested Development” have contradicted this assumption, prompting discontent among viewers.

In another significant removal, the Oscar-winning drama “The Power of the Dog” (2021) is set to exit Netflix’s UK platform in August. Netflix has explained that this was the intended plan from the outset, as the film’s removal aligns with a pre-existing agreement.

The deal grants the BBC an exclusive window for one year before the film returns to Netflix in August the following year.

Remarkably, “The Power of the Dog” is available for viewing on other platforms, including download options and DVD/Blu-ray purchases. Netflix users have until August 19 to stream the movie, featuring acclaimed actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Another acclaimed Netflix original film, the 2015 adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “The Little Prince,” is also scheduled for removal in August.

The sudden removals have left users puzzled, prompting some to advocate for purchasing physical copies of films for personal ownership. Responses to the news ranged from surprise to disbelief, with users expressing shock and seeking confirmation of the situation.
