Bernans, a new mother, suffered multiple broken bones, fractures, and chipped teeth after a driver crashed into an outdoor dining area at the Chirp restaurant in Manhattan around 1:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Thankfully, her child was not present at the time of the crash, confirmed her representative. Despite the severity of her injuries, she is currently in stable condition. Fans have since launched a Go-Fund-Me for the new mother.
The dramatic incident unfolded as police responded to reports of a physical assault involving the 44-year-old male driver and a 34-year-old female passenger. Attempting to de-escalate the situation, officers ordered the driver to stop, but he fled, triggering a harrowing series of events.
The driver maneuvered through city streets, striking multiple pedestrians, two police officers, and even colliding with parked vehicles. Two officers and the passenger were also injured in the chaotic spree. The driver, identified as Mohamed Alaouie, was eventually taken into custody.
