Five Movies like ‘The Conjuring’

The Conjuring is a horror and thriller movie that was released in 2013 and has been a hit since then. Ed and Lorraine Warren are the main characters played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Ed and Lorraine have an understanding of the horror world, and how it entails demons, spirits, devils, and scary shadowy beings. They collect all artifacts related to the supernatural and store them in a locked, private room.

In this movie, they are helping out the Perron family who have moved into a farmhouse and are going through paranormal activities. They help out by getting rid of the demon that has been haunting the family. This movie is the first of eight, which also coincides with the ‘Annabelle’ movies as they are all interconnected.

This horror, mystery film is about Father Burke and Sister Irene going to the Vatican to decipher a mysterious death of a young nun. They end up confronting a demonic nun, who is quite difficult to destroy. The entire movie entails how to get rid of the possessed nun who had killed an innocent young nun.

A lot of paranormal and frightening activities happen in the movie that can cause the audience to dive into the feeling of thrill as they feel chills down their spine. This movie is very much recommended to be watched in a cinematic setting for the best experience.

IT (2017)

This movie is mainly about a clown named Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) who scares and frightens little children once every few years before feeding on them. This movie has seven children; Bill Denbrough (Jaeden Martel), Richie Tozier (Finn Wolfhard), Beverly Marsh (Sophia Lillis), Eddie (Jack Dylan Grazer), Stanley Uris (Wyatt Oleff), Ben Hanscom (Jeremy Ray Taylor) and Georgie Denbrough (Jackson Robert Scott), who are helplessly bullied. Pennywise the clown scares and torments them until he is ready to devour their souls. This movie is filled with thrill, horror, and gore. Definitely, a must-watch if you love horror films!

 Annabelle (2014)

John (Ward Horton) and Mia Form (Annabelle Wallis) are your typical next-door neighbors living their average life. Mia is expecting a baby, while John is a doctor in the local hospital. As a gift for Mia and their soon-to-be-born baby Leah, John presents her with the gift of a very estranged creepy-looking doll which Mia gladly accepts. One night, in an attempt to save their neighbors, the Higgins, they are attacked as well. When the attackers get caught, a girl called Annabelle kills herself and sends her soul into the new doll.

After this, a series of paranormal activities take place in the house so the couple decides to move elsewhere, and end up in a cute apartment in a different city. They had gotten rid of the doll, but the spirit inside it followed them which brought the doll back to the couple as well. By this time Leah was born. Mia begins to investigate Annabelle, as John is not at home, and ends up befriending Evelyn who helps her too. The spirit of Annabelle is in search of a soul and wants to kill Leah. This creates a lot of scary moments in the film. It ends with Evelyn sacrificing herself instead of Leah, satisfying the demon that was after all of them.

Insidious (2010)

The movie Insidious is about a couple, Josh and Renai Lambert (Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne) and their son Dalton Lambert (Ty Simpkins) who move into a new house for a fresh and different start. However, this new house is quite old with a lot of mystery behind it. One day Dalton randomly goes into a coma. Right after this a lot of paranormal activity starts to take place. The evil spirits and demons want to take comatose Dalton into a realm called ‘The Further’, which his parents make sure does not happen to their son. This movie is an intense supernatural thriller that includes a lot of jump scares. Definitely, an exciting movie to watch if you don’t get scared easily!

The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is a very unsettling horror film that is based on demonic possessions. This movie is about Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair), a young child who stumbles upon an Ouija board and starts playing with it. When she does so, she gets possessed by a demonic entity. When her mother Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), notices that her child has been acting strange she calls upon priests who confirm that she really is possessed.

Most of the movie consists of the demon making Regan do scary, horror-inflicted things. Some of this includes urinating in front of guests, her head spinning round and around creepily, and vulgar, graphic language throughout the film. This movie is definitely not for the soft-hearted and should be watched at the viewer’s discretion.
