During a press conference on Wednesday, Glenn Weiss, the executive producer and showrunner of the Oscars, confirmed that Lady Gaga, who received her fourth Oscar 2023 nomination for her song ‘Hold My Hand’ in the film ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ will not be performing at the event.
Weiss stated that all five nominees were invited, and that Lady Gaga’s absence was due to her being currently occupied with filming a movie. He added that they did not feel she could deliver a performance to the standard expected of her and that she is accustomed to, so she will not be performing at the show.
At present, Lady Gaga is involved in the production of the movie ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ as shared by director Todd Phillips, who also posted the first image of Gaga as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix on Valentine’s Day.
It is said that Gaga is portraying her own rendition of the DC Comics character, playing the role of a psychiatrist who develops feelings for the Joker before eventually adopting his malicious ways.
