Where to watch ‘The Swimmers (2022)’ from anywhere: Syrian Refugees Dream Of Olympic Gold!

“Swim for me. For everyone who died trying to find a new life. Swim for all of us.”

The Swimmers, a recent Netflix movie, follows the inspirational journey of teenage sisters Yusra and Sara Mardini. Based on a real refugee story directed by Sally El-Hosaini. The film will premiere on Netflix on November 23, 2022.

It illustrates how the two managed to flee the Syrian Civil War in 2015 while also improving the lives of other refugees. Astonishingly, Yusra represented the Refugee Olympic squad in swimming events at the 2016 Rio Olympics, barely a year after their harrowing voyage.

What are The Swimmers (2022) all about?

Bold editing and immersive camerawork force us to physically experience the fear and uncertainty of the migrants’ journey from Turkey to the Greek Island of Lesbos by overcrowded inflatable boat. Sara and Yusra partially swim the distance to save the lives of their fellow travellers. The simplicity of the by-the-numbers happy ending marginally detracts from this intensely emotional filmmaking.

The Plot of The Swimmers (2022)

After their home was destroyed during the civil war in Syria, sisters Yusra and Sara Mardini left the country. They travelled to Turkey from Lebanon, where they arranged to be smuggled into Greece on a dinghy. When the overcrowded dinghy’s engine stopped, and the migrants were in the middle of the Aegean Sea, the pair and two other people who could swim saved the lives of everybody on board. Less than a year after their terrible adventure, Yusra competed in two swimming events for the Refugee Olympic squad at the Rio Olympics.

What Yusra Mardini feels about The Swimmers (2022) film?

The Syrian Civil War is in its middle stages. Yusra Mardini is preparing to participate in a neighbourhood swimming competition in a Damascus recreation centre. She dons her swimming cap before jumping into the water. But as she is doing her turnaround lap, a bomb bursts through the recreation centre’s roof and into her path.

Mardini says in an interview that the missile entered the pool but did not detonate. Everyone was taken outside. Sadly, she wasn’t as terrified as she appeared in the film. Unfortunately, she was accustomed to that kind of behaviour at that point. When asked if she had seen the finished product, she replied, it’s hard to watch. It is pretty emotional. Because you don’t sit back and reflect on everything that has happened to you in your life, it is also incredibly enlightening. It’s weird to watch her entire life on the screen.
