Suits: L.A. Secures Pilot Order at NBC, Expanding the Suits Universe

The Suits universe is expanding, as NBC grants a pilot order to Suits: L.A., a brainchild of Aaron Korsh, the original series creator and writer. The pilot is scheduled to commence production in late March in Vancouver, revealing a new chapter in the Suits saga.

Unlike a reboot or revival, Suits: L.A. is envisioned as a fresh narrative akin to successful franchises like CSI and NCIS, introducing new characters in a new locale. The series follows Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, who transforms into a representative for Los Angeles’ most influential clients.

Facing a crisis within his firm, Ted must reconcile with a role he previously disdained throughout his career.

According to Deadline, the central plot revolves around Ted and a dynamic group of characters, testing loyalties amidst the intertwining of personal and professional lives. Simultaneously, past events resurface, compelling Ted to leave behind his loved ones and everything he held dear.

Suits: L.A.

Executive produced by Aaron Korsh, David Bartis, Doug Liman, and Gene Klein—members of the original series’ production team— Suits: L.A. delves into the complex world of legal drama, promising riveting storylines and character dynamics.

Notably, the original Suits cast, including Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty, Meghan Markle, and Rick Hoffman, will not feature in the pilot.

However, Patrick J. Adams has expressed interest in reprising his role as Mike Ross. The possibility of original cast appearances may increase if the L.A. offshoot secures a series order.

The resurgence of interest in the Suits franchise stems from Netflix’s streaming of the series in mid-2023. Breaking records as the “most watched streaming original in the U.S.,” surpassing Apple’s Ted Lasso, the show’s popularity has paved the way for innovative expansions within the Suits universe.

Suits: L.A. marks the second offshoot following the Torres-centric spinoff Pearson, which aired on USA in 2019. Although Pearson faced cancellation after one season, it is currently available for streaming on Peacock, showcasing the enduring appeal of the Suits legacy.

Stay tuned for the pilot’s debut, as Suits: L.A. promises to captivate audiences with its fresh narrative and engaging legal drama.
