Roku Acquires The Spiderwick Chronicles Following Disney+ Exit

Roku has secured the exclusive US rights to stream the TV adaptation of the beloved children’s fantasy series, The Spiderwick Chronicles, authored by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black.

The upcoming eight-episode series, featuring a talented ensemble cast including Christian Slater and Jack Dylan Grazer, is set to make its debut on The Roku Channel in early 2024.

Originally developed and produced for Disney+, the series faced a setback in August when Disney+ decided to cancel its plans for streaming, despite having completed the filming process.

The Spiderwick Chronicles delves into the tale of a family of young siblings who relocate from New York to Michigan and settle into a run-down estate that holds significance in their family’s history. Their new home soon reveals a realm filled with enchanting fairies and other supernatural beings, concealed within their great grandfather’s Spiderwick Estate.

This story had previously been adapted into a 2008 movie directed by Mark Waters, featuring a young Freddie Highmore as the twins Jared and Simon Grace. This time, the series is set to come to life through a talented ensemble cast, with Grazer voicing Thimbletack, Slater taking on the role of Mulgarath, Joy Bryant portraying Helen Grace, Noah Cottrell as Simon Grace, Lyon Daniels as Jared Grace, and Mychala Lee as Mallory Grace.
