Hulu’s Amanda Knox limited series is undergoing a shakeup as Margaret Qualley steps away from the lead role, citing scheduling conflicts. The news, confirmed by Variety, means the role will be recast.
This isn’t the first time Hulu has faced such a setback. Previously, Kate McKinnon was set to portray Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in “The Dropout,” a role eventually taken by Amanda Seyfried, who earned an Emmy for her performance.
The untitled Amanda Knox series, comprising eight one-hour episodes, delves into the true story of Knox’s wrongful conviction for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, and her subsequent struggle for exoneration over 16 years.
Penned by KJ Steinberg, known for her work on “This Is Us” and “Mistresses,” the series boasts a stellar lineup of executive producers, including Monica Lewinsky and Knox herself. 20th Television is behind the production.
Knox’s story has captivated audiences, inspiring various onscreen adaptations and documentaries. Lifetime’s “Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy” and the film “Stillwater” are just some of the projects inspired by her experiences.
With Qualley’s departure, attention now turns to the casting of the pivotal role, as Hulu navigates the challenges of bringing Knox’s compelling saga to life on screen.
