Five Nights at Freddy’s Features Stronger Hero-Animatronic Bond

During the New York Comic Con, director Ema Tammi shed light on her upcoming Peacock TV film, Five Nights At Freddy’s.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Tammi discussed the latest main character of the movie, Abby Schmidt. She dropped some hints about Abby’s link to the animatronics, revealing how she views them through the eyes of a child.

“Well, I think one of the things that we wanted to do with the movie is bring a) the character of Abby into the forefront and really being able to see the pizzeria and the world of Freddy’s through her eyes. Which is completely filled with childhood wonderment before things get really scary for her.”

What’s more, there was a subtle suggestion of a profound connection between these murderous animatronics and a security guard named Mike, one that appears to be entangled with some long-standing, haunting trauma he’s been wrestling with for years.

“But on top of that, what Mike is grappling with, our lead protagonist, he’s dealing with past trauma and the abduction of his brother that happened years ago. So there was an opportunity to bring the ghost kids from the lore into the fold in his dreamscape, that, I think was a really cool additional element breathing new life into the film adaptation.”

In the film, Mike is a single father responsible for raising Abby. He decides to take up a night security position at the long-abandoned Freddy Fazbear Pizza. However, as he delves deeper into the secrets of the establishment and the eerie animatronic characters lurking within, Mike begins to entertain doubts about his decision to accept this job.

Five Nights at Freddy’s releases on October 27.
