Disney+ Hotstar India Content Chief Discusses Growth Strategies

Gaurav Banerjee, the content head of Disney+ Hotstar discusses the growth strategy for India.

The number of viewers on OTT platforms are on the rise in India because of the popularity of Indian made content. Platforms like Disney+ hotstar and Amazon prime video are growing Rapidly in the Indian market.

According to Variety, Banerjee spoke at Indiantelevision.com’s annual industry event, The Content Hub, in Mumbai on Tuesday. While speaking to editor-in-chief Anil Wanvari, He emphasised on expanding the boundaries and making content in languages beyond Hindi.

“We recognized early on that massive growth in India is going to come by thinking about our content strategy and multiple languages, and not just in Hindi,” Banerjee said. The streaming platform currently produces content in the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages and also programs in the Malayalam language.

Their are many successful originals in Tamil, including “November Story”, “Kana Kaanum Kalangal”, “Parampara” and “Jhansi” in Telugu.

While discussing the importance of diversity, Banerjee said, “We have incredibly diverse context that is coming together in all of these languages.” Building a Malayalam-language originals slate is their upcoming goal, “The regional slate is critically important,” Banerjee said.
