Barbie Takes Grand Leap to IMAX With Exclusive Footage

In a resounding victory at the box office, Barbie, the vivacious comedy directed by Greta Gerwig, is set to make an even bigger splash.

With a staggering $572 million earned in North America and a global tally of $1.3 billion, Barbie is on track to become the year’s highest-grossing release. Now, Warner Bros. is gearing up for a spectacular IMAX run that promises to elevate the film’s success to new heights.

Scheduled for a limited one-week engagement starting September 22, the IMAX release of Barbie aims to provide audiences with an immersive and awe-inspiring cinematic experience.

Variety reports that director Greta Gerwig, renowned for her directorial prowess in films like Lady Bird and Little Women, expressed her excitement, stating: “We made ‘Barbie’ for the big screen, so it’s a thrill to be able to bring it to IMAX, the biggest screen of all.”

Despite initial competition for premium large formats like IMAX, Barbie has surged ahead, captivating audiences worldwide. IMAX Corporation’s CEO, Richard Gelfond, lauded the film’s triumphant journey from conception to critical and commercial success.

The collaboration between Gerwig, her filmmaking team, and Warner Bros. has resulted in a special IMAX edition of Barbie that will include exclusive post-credits footage, elevating the cinematic experience for audiences globally.

As Barbie continues to dominate the box office, its forthcoming IMAX run promises to transport viewers into a world of whimsy, as Barbie and Ken venture beyond the Dreamhouse.
