Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have released a joint statement announcing their divorce. The couple, who have been married for four years, posted the statement on their respective Instagram accounts and have disabled comments on their posts.
The post shared, “A statement from the two of us: ‘After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.'”
Just hours after reports came in about Jonas filing for divorce from Turner following four years of marriage, the couple released this statement. According to documents acquired by PEOPLE, the filing indicated that their marriage was “irretrievably broken” and confirmed the existence of a prenuptial agreement, outlining their legal proceedings.
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner began their romantic journey in 2016. Within a year, they were engaged. Their love story took a surprising turn when they tied the knot in an impromptu Las Vegas ceremony shortly after the Billboard Music Awards in May 2019. They followed it up with a grand celebration in Sarrians, France, the next month, where Turner’s HBO Game of Thrones co-star Maisie Williams had the honor of being her maid of honor.
