Unexpectedly much filming for “Avatar 4” has already been done

The majority of the first act of Avatar 4 has already ended filming, according to Producer Jon Landau.

Landau responded to a query from Variety about the production and design of the fourth Avatar film during a press conference held during the Busan International Film Festival. “We’ve completed most of the first act of Avatar 4 and there were logistical reasons why we needed to do that,” Landau said. “We’ve designed most of the whole movie for Avatar 4 but we haven’t actually filmed all of it just the first act.” While the film is set to release in 2026, filming began as early as 2017.

Landau said that the creation of the universe necessitated technological advancements, which is why it had taken so long to produce the Avatar movies. Landau claimed that five, eight, or nine years prior, “we could not have provided what they saw today.” We required the time to develop it to the degree at which we can now provide it to the public.

At the movie festival, Avatar: The Way of Water was screened for 15 minutes. During the sold-out event, director James Cameron also made a video appearance. And spoke about the sequel’s ecological undertones and high-frame-rate projection. Landau went on to emphasize the significance of diversity in the Avatar movies.

While discussing the future of the franchise, Landau further revealed that every sequel would introduce new and unique parts to Pandora’s growing world. “With each sequel, we’re going to introduce audiences to new cultures and new biomes. We don’t leave behind the cultures that we’ve met,” Landau said.

Avatar, which Cameron directed, was released in 2009 to universal acclaim. The science-fiction movie received plaudits in particular for its visually stunning effects and compelling narrative. The movie went on to gross nearly $2.8 billion at the box office, making it the all-time highest grossing movie.

There will be four sequels, the first of which, Avatar: The Way of Water, will hit theatres on December 16.
