Despite receiving a warm welcome as a hero during his travels to promote Top Gun: Maverick, which is credited with reviving the theatrical market after the Covid pandemic, Tom Cruise will not be attending the Oscars 2023 tonight. Instead, he has returned to work and is currently filming scenes on a carrier in Sicily.
If Top Gun were to unexpectedly win an award, one of the film’s other producers, Jerry Bruckheimer, would have to accept the recognition as Cruise will not be present.
Although there is ongoing discussion in Hollywood about whether the recent surge in post-pandemic success will come to a halt due to a potential writer’s strike and the need to address fair compensation and residuals in the streaming era, Tom Cruise is set to give the box office another boost with the upcoming release of Mission: Impossible —Dead Reckoning Part One on July 14th.
Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie are currently working diligently to complete the second part of the series, which is slated for release on June 28th, 2024, as Paramount has already announced.
