Tatiana Maslany says ‘She-Hulk’ writer enjoyed mocking show’s unoriginal critics

Tatiana Maslany, who plays She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, said that the creators of the show cherished the opportunity to prank the most critics of the program. According to Tatiana the authors loved the opportunity to jeer at the show’s “tired” and “unoriginal” detractors.

Maslany revealed in a Variety interview that head writer Jessica anticipated how certain Marvel fans would perceive Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk as a woman purportedly invading the MCU. She added that the cast enjoyed reading the online trolls comments because they knew that some of them will be used verbatim in the show finale.

Jessica Gao is a genius and knows about the culture we’re living in and her position in it when she’s writing these stories about a woman superhero,” Maslany said. “She knows what that response is going to be. As a cast, it was delightful sending each other these troll responses, like ‘Oh my god, give them a week and then they’re going to literally see this pop up verbatim in the show and become the villains of the show.’ It was thrilling.”

Tatiana Maslany anticipated the unfavorable criticism from trolls when she assumed the role of She-Hulk. She revealed, however, that she enjoyed using the hate to make a point about the representation of women in superhero media.

“Reading the script, it was so true, There’s so much resistance to a woman just existing in that space of superheroes,” Maslany said. “There’s always going to be that. I sort of anticipated it. It’s why I also feel it’s important. There’s such an entitlement to space held by certain people, and to even exist as She-Hulk is like a fuck-you, and I love that.”

However, although the season’s plot looked to be building toward a formulaic battle scene in the finale, Jennifer’s fourth-wall-breaking action successfully results in a less formulaic, more peaceful conclusion. Gao’s series vision therefore played the trolls by defying their predictions.

The nine episode first season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is accessible on Disney+.
