Stephanie Bunbury calls Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the Musical” an absolute blast

Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical now has an official trailer. Last week, it made its debut as the opening night gala at the London Film Festival.

Stephanie Bunbury In her review for Deadline, called the movie “an absolute blast” and wrote “It is clear that Warchus and the team have not merely adapted the theater musical but rethought it, top to bottom” with actors who are “turned up to a glorious eleven.”

Producers are Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title, Jon Finnand Luke Kelly of The Roald Dahl Story Company. 

Emma Thompson, Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, Sindhu Vee, Alisha Weir, and Lashana Lynch are among the cast members. Tim Minchin composed the original music and lyrics for Dennis Kelly’s adaptation of the Royal Shakespeare Company play for the big screen.

The plot revolves around Matilda Wormwood (Weir), a little child with a keen intellect, a creative imagination, and the world’s worst parents. Matilda enjoys losing herself in the pages of her favourite books while the rest of the family is satisfied to watch trashy TV and engage in shady money-making activities.

Sony and TriStar Pictures will release the film in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on November 25Netflix will release in the U.S. and elsewhere on December 25.
