Prime Video has greenlit an exciting new series, Young Sherlock, featuring Hero Fiennes Tiffin as the young detective. Guy Ritchie, renowned for his dynamic filmmaking, will direct and executive produce the eight-episode series. Fans worldwide can stream it exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries.
Matthew Parkhill, known for Deep State and Rogue, takes the helm as showrunner. He promises an action-packed origin story of Sherlock Holmes, reimagined in a way never seen before.
At 19, Sherlock, disgraced and raw, finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery at Oxford University. This case propels him into a world of danger and conspiracy, shaping him into the iconic detective.
Joining the project as executive producers are Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and Marc Resteghini, with Harriet Creelman co-executive producing. The series promises to crack open Sherlock’s enigmatic character, exploring what makes him tick.
Ritchie remarked, “In Young Sherlock, we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know. We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”
Kelton and Atkinson originally conceived the project, collaborating with Motive, Gilbert, and Resteghini to bring it to Amazon MGM Studios.
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, is enthusiastic about the series, stating, “This exciting new chapter about one of the world’s best-known literary characters will delight our global customers with its captivating storytelling.”
This series marks a reunion for Ritchie and Tiffin, who recently collaborated on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Tiffin’s upcoming projects include the survival thriller Above the Below with Idris Elba and the romantic comedy Picture This for Prime Video.
