Netflix’s One Piece has unveiled new cast members set to portray the infamous villains in its upcoming second season. Among the notable additions is David Dastmalchian, known for his roles in Oppenheimer, Dune, and Suicide Squad. He will be joined by Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, and Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine.
David Dastmalchian, who will portray Mr. 3, is no stranger to high-profile projects, boasting credits in Oppenheimer, The Suicide Squad, and Dune. Camrus Johnson, cast as Mr. 5, is known for his role as Luke Fox/Batwing in Batwoman. Daniel Lasker, who will play Mr. 9, gained recognition for his role in Raised By Wolves. Jazzara Jaslyn, set to bring Miss Valentine to life, recently appeared in Warrior.
Expressing his excitement on Instagram, Johnson wrote, “I am so hyped to join the One Piece family. Bringing Mr. 5 to life is an honor, and I can’t thank Kings Oda, Matt Owens, and Joe Tracz enough for trusting me to. Baroque Works is comin’.” Jaslyn shared her enthusiasm as well, saying her “heart is exploding with excitement, gratitude, and utter joy to be joining the magical world of One Piece.”
Lasker echoed similar sentiments, noting on Instagram, “No words to express how honored and thrilled I am to be joining the Netflix series’ cast. I adore the world that Oda-san created, and to now step into it as a character is a real dream come true. I’m pinching myself.”
These new characters are integral members of the Baroque Works criminal syndicate, led by Sir Crocodile, also known as Mr. 0. Operating from the shadows, Baroque Works employs agents with unique abilities, all working towards seizing control of the Alabasta Kingdom. Mr. 3, or Galdino, uses wax manipulation for combat.
Mr. 9, known as Igaram, is a loyal agent with a complex backstory. Mr. 5, or Gem, possesses explosive abilities, and Miss Valentine manipulates her weight for powerful aerial attacks.
In addition to the new villains, Variety reports the return of the original cast, including Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
Netflix confirmed the renewal of the live-action series for a second season in September 2023, just two weeks after the first season’s release. Helmed by showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, One Piece is based on Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga, which debuted in 1997. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew on their quest for the legendary One Piece treasure, aiming to claim the title of Pirate King.
