In a surprising turn of events, a top Hollywood insider has claimed that Netflix is considering ending its lucrative deal worth $104 million with the Royal couple.
Following in the footsteps of Spotify, which recently terminated its $20 million contract with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and canceled Meghan Markle’s podcast Archetypes, Netflix reportedly wants to “pull out” from its agreement with the royal couple. The revelation was made by veteran British journalist Dan Wootton during an interview on GB News.
“I was told by a top Hollywood source tonight. This was a conversation I had literally before we came to air,” Wootton stated, confidently predicting the outcome. “Now Netflix wants to pull out too. Netflix wants to follow Spotify out the door and dump the Sussexes. That’s what I’ve been told.”
The decision comes on the heels of Netflix’s refusal to renew Archetypes for a second season, disappointing its producers. Since signing the multi-million dollar deal with the streaming giant in late 2020, the Sussexes have only completed one project, failing to meet the productivity benchmarks required for the full payout.
Spotify, too, expressed its dissatisfaction with the couple’s output, with a top executive labeling them as “f**king grifters” after they produced a mere 12 podcast episodes over a span of three years. Commenting on the situation, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield remarked that being publicly abandoned by Spotify would undoubtedly be a difficult blow for Harry and Meghan.
While these reports indicate a potential shift in the dynamics of the entertainment industry, it remains to be seen whether Netflix will indeed sever ties with the royal couple. Nevertheless, the speculation surrounding the fate of their partnership continues to generate interest and intrigue, leaving fans and industry insiders eagerly awaiting further developments in the coming weeks or months.
