“Wednesday Season 2 is now in production,” Netflix revealed on social media, sharing a snapshot of the extended cast.
Among the exciting new faces joining the record-breaking series is Billie Piper, fresh off her success in Scoop, who will portray Capri. Thandiwe Newton, known for her role in Westworld, is set to play Dr. Fairburn.
Additionally, Joanna Lumley, the Absolutely Fabulous legend, will step into the role of Grandmama. Other new additions include Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo, though their roles remain under wraps.
Returning favourites include Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Noah Taylor (Park Avenue). Tim Burton will continue his dual role as director and executive producer, ensuring the series maintains its unique gothic charm.
Season 1 followed Wednesday Addams, played by the talented Jenna Ortega, as she navigated a murder spree at Nevermore Academy. While Netflix has remained tight-lipped about specific plot details for the new season, they have hinted at more “torture” for Wednesday.
The premiere episode of Season 2 is intriguingly titled “Here We Woe Again.” In an interview with Tudum, Ortega teased, “[Wednesday] sticks to her guns, and she’s not out to please anybody,” highlighting the character’s steadfast nature.
Fans can also look forward to seeing some familiar faces more regularly. Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Deputy Ritchie Santiago) are all set to return as series regulars.
Moreover, Christopher Lloyd, beloved for his portrayal of Uncle Fester in the Addams Family film franchise, is slated for a guest appearance. This follows the first season’s cameo by the original Wednesday Addams, Christina Ricci.
The first season of Wednesday premiered in 2022 to overwhelming success, amassing over one billion viewing hours within three weeks and earning 12 Emmy nominations. Despite fears that the series might leave Netflix, the streaming service confirmed its commitment to the show, much to the relief of its dedicated fanbase.
As production gears up, the anticipation for Wednesday Season 2 continues to build. With a stellar cast and the promise of more darkly comedic adventures, fans eagerly await the return of their favorite macabre heroine.
