The Friend, winner of the 2018 National Book Award for Fiction, explores the aftermath of a mentor’s sudden demise, leaving a New York writer to grapple with his intricate literary legacy, three unconventional ex-wives, and a lovable yet heartbroken Great Dane named Apollo.

Joining Watts and Murray are Sarah Pidgeon, Constance Wu, Emmy winner Ann Dowd, and Noma Dumezweni. The film is currently in production in New York, promising a tale filled with emotion, humor, and unexpected connections.

Watts also takes on the role of executive producer alongside Mike Spreter for Big Creek and Margaret Chernin for 3dot Productions. CAA Media Finance represents the film’s domestic rights.
