Marvel Studios’ hit Disney+ series Loki has left fans eager for more, and it seems their wishes might be answered. Executive Producer Kevin Wright shed light on the show’s future prospects and what’s in store for the beloved god of mischief.
Wright revealed to Variety that discussions about Loki Season 2 began during the production of the first season’s third episode. The team aimed to deepen the show’s world without repeating itself. The finale of Season 1 left Loki in an alternate TVA, with his allies unaware of their past interactions.
Season 2, comprising six episodes, picks up directly where Season 1 left off and takes its own unique storytelling path. The original cast, including Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, returns. Jonathan Majors, who portrayed He Who Remains, returns in the role of a variant, Victor Timely. New additions to the cast include Ke Huy Quan, Kate Dickie, Rafael Casal, and others.
Behind the scenes, there have been changes. Kate Herron and Michael Waldron, the original director and head writer, respectively, stepped back for other projects. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, known for Moon Knight, took over as lead directors, with Eric Martin becoming the head writer.
Loki Season 3 and Future MCU Connections
When asked about the potential for a Loki Season 3, Wright suggested an open-ended future for Loki. While Season 2 wasn’t created as a direct setup for another season, the show’s rich world and characters offer numerous storytelling opportunities.
Wright expressed hope that Loki would return to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, he emphasized the importance of Loki’s emotional journey before any potential reunion with Thor and the broader MCU.
Fans of the mischievous god can remain optimistic about more Loki adventures in the future, both within the Loki world and potentially alongside other iconic Marvel characters.
