The suave and charismatic Lando Calrissian, brought to life by Donald Glover, is making his way back to the Star Wars universe. However, there’s been a significant pivot in the plan. What was initially set as a Disney+ series has now transformed into a full-fledged theatrical feature film.
This unexpected shift from a series to a movie was revealed by none other than Stephen Glover, who, alongside his brother Donald, was deeply involved in the project. Stephen disclosed this development on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, clarifying that the concept has evolved into a big-screen endeavor.
According to Deadline, the decision to transition Lando from the small screen to the cinema comes as a surprise, breaking away from the original announcement made during a Disney investor day in December 2020. At that time, fans were told to anticipate a Disney+ series. However, due to various factors, including industry strikes, the project’s format has been reshaped.
Donald Glover’s portrayal of Lando first graced the screen in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Despite the film facing challenges during production and at the box office, Glover’s rendition of the charming gambler was widely acclaimed by fans.
The character of Lando Calrissian, originally played by Billy Dee Williams, made his debut in the 1980 classic Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Williams reprised the role in Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
As the Star Wars universe continues to expand and evolve, fans can now look forward to seeing Lando Calrissian’s return in a thrilling cinematic adventure, promising to bring his unique charisma and daring escapades to the big screen once more.
