The Acolyte, the newest Star Wars series, premiered on Disney+ and took viewers to fresh corners of the galaxy. But amidst the bustling action on the planet Olega, fans spotted a familiar face: Manny Jacinto, best known as Jason Mendoza from The Good Place, now playing the mysterious smuggler Qimir.
Yes, the chill, possibly stoned weapons smuggler aiding Amandla Stenberg’s Mae in her quest is indeed Jacinto. While he’s had roles in other projects like Nine Perfect Strangers, it’s hard not to picture him and shout, “BORTLES!” The Good Place hold remains strong.
So, who exactly is Qimir? Introduced in Episode 2, “Revenge/Justice,” Qimir wakes from a drunken (or drugged) stupor to assist Mae. His talents include offering sage advice, access to poisons, and helping Mae evade the Jedi, including the Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca on Khofar.

Despite his lazy demeanour, Qimir proves adept. He quickly sees through Osha’s (also played by Stenberg) act and remains loyal to Mae’s Master’s cause, showing open disdain for the Jedi. Qimir’s layers of mystery even prompted a theory from Decider: Could he be Mae’s Master in disguise?
Jacinto teased in a Decider interview, “Yeah, I mean, you definitely find out more about Qimir later on. But I mean, it’s all kind of up in the air at that point.”
He added, “That’d be cool if he was behind that mask, kind of like, you know, pulling all the strings and yeah. But you have to stay tuned to find out.”
Whether Qimir is the master or just a survivor, fans must keep watching The Acolyte on Tuesday nights to uncover his fate and secrets.
Tune into The Acolyte on Disney+ every Tuesday at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET to see if Qimir has what it takes to survive.
