‘Dune: Part Two’ Kicks Off Overseas Box Office with a Sandstorm of Success

The highly anticipated ‘Dune: Part Two‘ has made an impressive international debut, sweeping through 13 markets on Wednesday with a stellar performance. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the sequel took the lead as the No. 1 Hollywood film in each of these markets, accumulating $5.2 million for the day and reaching an offshore cumulative total of $7.6 million, including previews.

Deadline reports that in France, one of the release markets, ‘Dune: Part Two‘ achieved a running cume of $2.3 million, incorporating previews. The film boasts an exceptional audience rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars on Allociné, with critics also giving it a commendable 4.1. Comparisons show that the film is pacing similarly to ‘The Batman,’ surpassing ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One‘ by 27%, outperforming Villeneuve’s 2021 ‘Dune‘ by 44%, and leading ‘Oppenheimer‘ by an impressive 63%.

Imax results soared, exceeding ‘Oppenheimer‘ by 65% in admissions. In France, including Tuesday previews, ‘Dune: Part Two‘ had a larger Imax start than even ‘Avatar: The Way of Water.’

In Korea, despite competition from the local film ‘Exhuma,’ ‘Dune: Part Two‘ secured the second spot with $1.2 million on Wednesday. The launch day marked a significant 108% increase over ‘Dune‘ and an impressive 385% surge ahead of ‘Blade Runner 2049.’

This opening day also stands as the highest for both star Timothée Chalamet and director Villeneuve. Notably, it’s the most substantial Imax opening day for a Warner Bros. title. As of Thursday, the film has grossed $2.1 million.

Taiwan witnessed ‘Dune: Part Two‘ claiming a 62% market share on Wednesday with $892,000, emerging as the most extensive opening day for Villeneuve and Chalamet. The performance outpaced ‘Oppenheimer‘ by 107%, ‘The Batman‘ by 172%, and ‘Dune Part One‘ by an impressive 229%.

Italy contributed to the success story, providing a 58% share of the Top 5 Films on Wednesday. The film outpaced its predecessor ‘Dune‘ by 4% and ‘Mission: Impossible 7‘ by an impressive 32%. Advance ticket sales indicate promising numbers, and the movie has garnered positive reviews from both critics and fans.

With 42 additional markets releasing on Thursday, including Germany, Australia, and all of Latin America, and 16 more markets scheduled for Friday, such as Spain and the UK, ‘Dune: Part Two‘ is set to dominate a total of 71 markets after the weekend, creating a global sandstorm of success.
