In a notable industry move, Nick Lee, renowned for his instrumental role in Channel 4‘s major deals for hit shows like The Handmaid’s Tale and The Great, is bidding adieu to Channel 4 after a decade. Lee is set to take on a significant role at BBC Studios as the Commercial Director for Drama and Comedy.
According to Deadline, his responsibilities at BBC Studios will encompass the development of a comprehensive commercial strategy for the organization’s scripted portfolio. This includes shows like Time, Am I Being Unreasonable?, and the highly-anticipated Famous Five reboot directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. Moreover, he will play a pivotal role in negotiating key partnership deals and driving new business ventures.
Nick Lee’s career has been marked by his immense influence on Channel 4’s strategy to enrich its VoD platform, All4, with premium U.S. content such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo, Rick and Morty, and The Great.
Prior to his tenure at Channel 4, Lee held various positions within the acquisitions team and was promoted to Head of Acquisitions and International two years ago.
At the BBC, he served as the Commercial Manager for Multiplatform & Home Entertainment, a role that positioned him as the face of BBC Production to the market.
Mark Linsey, the President of BBC Studios Scripted Productions, expressed confidence in Lee’s capabilities, citing his “proven track record as an astute deal maker” and his passion for drama and comedy as valuable assets for the team.
Nick Lee, commenting on his new role, said, “I’m hugely proud of my achievements at Channel 4 and I now relish the chance to help shape the creative strategy of BBC Studios and work with its stellar portfolio of scripted producers.”
This significant transition in the industry reflects the dynamic nature of media professionals who play a pivotal role in shaping the content landscape.
