Amazon MiniTV, the free streaming service available on the Amazon Shopping app in India, is introducing a new initiative called MiniTV Imported to cater to the changing viewing preferences of Indian consumers.
Under this banner, a selection of Korean, Turkish, Mandarin, and Spanish dramas will be dubbed into Hindi for local consumption. The first wave of shows, which will start streaming on July 7, consists entirely of Korean dramas, including popular titles like “Cheer Up,” “Heart Surgeons,” and “Doctor Detective.”
Amogh Dusad, the head of content at Amazon MiniTV, expressed the rationale behind this expansion: “In recent times, the viewing preferences of digital video consumers in India have changed significantly. They love diversity in content offering and are looking for unique stories & captivating characters from across the world. We have curated a list of blockbuster shows, from Korean, Turkish, Mandarin, Spanish, and many more languages, that we believe will resonate with Indian viewers.”
The move to dub international dramas into Hindi aligns with the growing demand for diverse and compelling content in India. By offering a range of shows from different countries, Amazon MiniTV aims to provide viewers with a wider array of options and introduce them to captivating narratives and characters from around the world.
This strategic decision not only reflects the evolving tastes of Indian audiences but also acknowledges the popularity of Korean dramas in the country. With this expansion, Amazon MiniTV hopes to tap into the immense fanbase of Korean dramas and extend its reach to other international series as well.
