Alan Ruck, known for his roles in Succession and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, is now entangled in a legal battle following a Halloween night crash in Hollywood involving his Rivian R1T. The incident left the other driver, Horacio Vela, with traumatic brain injuries, prompting him to file a lawsuit against Ruck for damages.
According to KTLA, he crash occurred when Ruck’s electric pickup, reportedly stopped at a red light, unexpectedly accelerated, colliding with a Hyundai Elantra before hitting a BMW X3 and crashing through the wall of a pizza shop. The aftermath was chaotic, with the Elantra driver pushed into another vehicle at the intersection.
Ruck claims ignorance about the cause of the sudden acceleration, and investigations initially pointed to the truck. However, Rivian insists the vehicle was functioning correctly. Despite police ruling out intoxication, Ruck’s insurance provider, State Farm, has reportedly refused to cover Vela’s injuries, citing a lack of responsibility on Ruck’s part.
Vela’s attorney, Neama Rahmani, stated, “We believe Ruck is responsible for the damages, and we filed a lawsuit to subpoena evidence and witnesses to prove our case.” Vela suffered a subdural hematoma brain bleed, leading to memory issues, fogginess, and dizziness.
In response, Ruck’s insurance company, State Farm, has been accused of negligence and avoiding responsibility. Rahmani mentioned, “Ruck’s State Farm adjuster has ghosted us for weeks despite repeated calls and letters seeking to work out an amicable settlement.”
Alan Ruck, who recently received an Emmy nomination for Succession, has not offered an explanation for the crash. The legal dispute highlights the challenges faced by Vela in seeking compensation for the damages and injuries caused by the collision.
