John Cena’s Vacation Friends 2 Role Has ‘A Lot Of His Improv In It’

Hulu’s Vacation Friends 2, the sequel to Vacation Friends, boasts a star-studded cast, part of which is John Cena.

The film revolves around Marcus (Lil Rel Howery) and Emily (Yvonne Orji), a newlywed couple, who decide to invite their close friends, Ron (John Cena) and Kyla (Meredith Hagner), also recently married and have a baby, to join them on a vacation. However, the situation takes an unexpected turn when Kyla’s father, Reese (Steve Buscemi), unexpectedly shows up at the resort.

In an interview with MovieFone, director Clay Tarver opened up about the details of the film. When asked whether he knew Cena would be as humorous as he is, Tarver replied, “I was amazed. No, I didn’t know.”

He added, “When he first signed on to do the movie, I probably shouldn’t say this, but I will tell you this story. Ike Barinholtz who was in ‘Blockers,’ which was a movie I really loved, I’d never met him before, and somehow I got his number and I called him up to ask him how it was working with John Cena. He got quiet and then he almost got angry and he was like, ‘I think he might be the nicest person I’ve ever met.'”

Tarver also shared, “He just sang his praises and he said, ‘He’s fantastic and you’re going to love working with him.’ He was just so good. He does all of these things that are so hard to do so easily. He really listens and plays off other people, and there’s a lot of his improv in it. I was just amazed and felt blessed and lucky to have him around on set every day.”

Vacation Friends 2 arrived on Hulu on August 25.
