I Am Groot season 2 is set to begin streaming on September 6th, exclusively on Disney+. However, the official production brief for the new season does not mention the involvement of James Gunn, who directed the Guardians of the Galaxy (GOTG) films.
This suggests that the upcoming season of I Am Groot was created without his direct participation. In the show’s first season, James Gunn held the title of Executive Producer. This upcoming season will mark the first instance in which a GOTG project has been developed without James Gunn’s direction or production.
Notably, season two will also be the initial installment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to be released following James Gunn’s transition to his responsibilities at DC Studios.
As a spin-off of GOTG, I Am Groot places Groot in the forefront, highlighting his character. Comprising five episodes, the show was directed by Kirsten Lepore. Voiced by Vin Diesel, the adorable GOTG team member takes center stage, picking up his story after GOTG Vol. 1 events.
In this film, Groot makes a selfless sacrifice to protect his companions. The first season didn’t follow a continuous storyline; each episode revolved around Groot encountering humorous situations akin to cartoon episodes. Despite departing from the traditional narrative, the show resonated well with Marvel’s audience. This success paved the way for a second season to be produced.
If you’re eager to catch up, the initial season of I Am Groot is currently available for streaming on Disney+. The second season will debut on the same platform on September 6th.
