Jeremy Renner will return to his starring role in Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount drama series Mayor of Kingstown.
Despite suffering 30 broken bones in a snowplough accident on New Year’s Day, Renner has made significant progress in his recovery and is now ready to resume filming. The series recently wrapped its second season and has officially been renewed for a third season on the Paramount Global-backed platform.
Sources reveal that the renewal for Mayor of Kingstown had been quietly picked up months ago, but the streamer delayed making a formal announcement while Renner focused on his recovery. A return date for the third season has not yet been determined, considering Renner’s ongoing recovery and the labor disputes involving writers and actors with studios and streamers.
In Mayor of Kingstown, Renner portrays the character of Mike McLusky, a key figure in maintaining peace within a town overrun by street gangs, prisoners, guards, and law enforcement.
Paramount states that the series ranks as its third top-performing original drama on the platform, falling just behind Sheridan’s other successful shows.
Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon created Mayor of Kingstown. They serve as executive producers alongside Renner, along with Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson, and Regina Corrado.
The show is produced in-house by MTV Studios and 101 Studios. Sheridan’s impressive lineup at Paramount includes other shows like Special Ops, Lioness, 1923, 1883, Tulsa King, as well as the upcoming Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and Land Man. Additionally, Sheridan is known for his critically acclaimed series Yellowstone, which also airs on the Paramount Network.
