The People’s Joker, an unofficial film directed by Vera Drew that reimagines the Joker through a trans origin tale and is located in the Batman universe, has been taken off the Toronto Film Festival’s schedule
The film has been pulled by the director owing to rights concerns, according to a statement on the TIFF website. “We sincerely regret any inconvenience. TIFF Customer Relations will send current ticket holders an email with details about their order.”

Warners did not respond to comment. It’s likely that the studio was protecting its DC IP, as is the standard with copyright protection. “We have no further comment beyond what is on TIFF’s website,” a spokesperson for the production told.
The People’s Joker development was originally alluded to by Drew, who wrote, directed, and stars in the DC character-inspired movie, she tweets a message on Twitter on Tuesday stating
