Recap of Cruel Summer Season 1
In the initial season of the series, which was created by Bert V. Royal and overseen by showrunner Tia Napolitano, the storyline revolves around the experiences of two teenage girls named Kate Wallis and Jeanette Turner. The events take place during the years 1993, 1994, and 1995. After Kate mysteriously vanishes, Jeanette unexpectedly starts assuming Kate’s identity. She becomes involved with Kate’s former group of friends and even begins dating her boyfriend, Jamie Henson.
A year later, when Kate is found and rescued from being held captive in a basement by the school’s vice principal, Martin Harris she publicly accuses Jeanette of witnessing her captivity but failing to report it. Consequently, Jeanette becomes widely despised, earning the title of “the most hated girl in America.” In response, Jeanette decides to take legal action against Kate, suing her for defamation.
